surely you should re-phrase this, many of us have outlook imposed upon us by
employers for whom the idea of a system administrator is a 16yr old mcse who
writes visual basic and thinks that tcp/ip is something you put on cuts.

imo, the best all round mail reader really is pine, its the best one to give
somebody who has never had to use shell before, mutt is my personal choice, it
does well with most things and handles gpg pretty well, evolution is huge!
mozilla is huge too and there arent that many others in X, 

basically the list software should be able to hande anything that gets thrown
at it (if not, then us open source types will fix it) the mail client should be
thought of in the same way, if we stop changing things to work with ms crapola
then we destroy another way of enticing someone away from windows!
