I have to disagree with this - any distinction between the two is rather
artificial.  The best definition I've heard is that the difference is
entirely one of marketing - Free Software appeals to morals whereas Open
Source appeals to business.  Their practical meaning is however
identical.

And yes, the ignorant use both terms to mean all sorts of nonsense, but
using their opinions as the foundation of a definition seems a little
odd.
