use festival to read the time to you...

try this in your crontab...

0-46/15 9-5 * * 1-5 /bin/date +%H:%M | /usr/bin/festival --tts

Gets on yout t**s after about 1 hour ;-)

If you are running X, try the extant xwrits package? It's pretty
useful for this kind of thing.
