RMAIL in my experience is "clever" - I read my mail using GNUS from
Maildir folders using IMAP on the
work box, then fetch it to the laptop and re-read it in RMAIL, which
does most of the filing and indexing. I still haven't got the BBDB-RMAIL
interface to do "annotate this person with this note when they are seen
in this context" but otherwise it's fine.

No, it runs what you tell it through a lisp interpreter and then does
what the lisp interpreter tells it...
