I can't imagine that it'd require so severe a remedy as that -- full hard 
drives happen all the time. Root is often provided 5% of the disk space above 
and beyond everything else in order to help handle this sort of thing. 
Userspace apps (like the email, ssh, etc) might well fall over because they 
can't create any more files, but you should be able to log in and delete 
files just fine.

But why serial? There should be a spare keyboard and monitor hanging around at 
competent centers (certainly, Telehouse offers same.)

Actually, space is something I might well need shortly. That, and pints.

i can do that for space and pints, but it'd take me a couple hours to get up 
from darkest Kent. If you've no joy from others a bit closer to London, let
