sounds like a dodgy card/driver to me,

i had this on some rtl8139 cards, the cable was/is fine,

a better test (if you can get to it all) is to ping with larget packets and
wiggle the cable about, (whip it ala the slinky + wave super position
experiment)

if it wasnt broke before there is more change it will be after :-)
