Can you download newer kernel ?
Looks for me like bug in binutils, which coused allready few problems and
seems to remain uncorected. Just try to download 2.4.20, when you are asking
about problems with kernel give .config attached (it is in kernel sources
directory - hidden file). And full error you have on screen.
