I'd recommend getting a small test network going if you have time, and
exercise every application your users have - it's the weird
vertical-specific software that can cause the real grief, rather than
the generic stuff.  I imagine there is software specific to schools that
your staff use, and it's probably pretty shonky.  

Finding out what is on people's desktops, and then getting your mitts on
the media can be one of the more difficult issues.
