So, I got a gas bill through this morning which was very high, I go to check
my meter, and it's pretty far out. I notice on the statement that I can now
give them a reading on their site which, being me, sounds like a good idea.
Unfortunately, I get this:
"
BROWSER PROBLEM
TXU Energi offers a number of online services to help you manage your
energy account from your computer.
Unfortunately the browser you are currently using does not work with our web
site.
If you would like to be able to view this site, we would suggest that you
install one of the browsers listed below...
Netscape Internet Explorer Opera
Version 6.0 or above. Version 4.0 or above, Version 5.0 or above.

I am, of course, using Mozilla 1.2.1 which I think is covered under Netscape
6.0 or above :-) So, since I had to call them anyway to give them the meter
reading (and the automated tool didn't work because it was so wrong), I
complained about the site - the drone I was speaking to put me through to a
real person, who took my details, made me spell Mozilla :-) and said she'd
pass my complaint on and either she or an IT bod would call me back on it.
And while writing this mail, she called back to say that my resolution has
to be at least 1024x768 (what the fsck? nothing to do with my complaint and
I'm running 1600x1200 anyway) and they're having problems with the site
anyway so could I try it again in the morning - oh, and apparently they use
Mozilla internally anyway! I exlpained to the woman that shutting out
random users was something like trying to supply electricity that would only
work with Sony or Phillips appliances, but not Panasonic - they are a
gas/electricity company after all - and she seems to get that this was a
dumb thing to do :-)
So I'm going to try the site again in the morning, and hopefully speak to
someone else there in the afternoon.
One site at a time! Unfortunately :-(
Cheers
Richard
