For the standard edition I think support is limited to installation
issues anyway. So if you install it successfully and then decide to
replace or modify the kernel it won't lose you anything.

The Advanced Server edition is a different matter. With this you are
paying significant money for support and replacing the kernel does
indeed invalidate it.
