The focus control will be part of or very close to the line output
transformer block, and normally labelled. Do not tweak everything in sight,
you might cause more problems than you fix. Use a well insulated screwdriver
as there are high power high voltages around.
The emitting surface of the cathode deteriorates with age, and the area
used increases as you try to maintain the screen brightness. It is no longer
a tiny point, so it is more difficult to focus the beam. A tube renovation
kit can throw the contamination off the cathode and catch it with the
"getter", but the kit costs several hundred pounds so it is not worth the
bother for ordinary tubes.
