Couldn't help notice the postcode is Southend area.
You might be interested in attending a SoSlug meeting.
They are usually held at the house of Derek Shaw
Address=82 Oakleigh Park Drive
Westcliff 8pm Thursdays.
(Or something similar)
I sometimes attend and I know that there are other people there interested in 
PHP/MySQL including Derek Shaw. Maybe you could give a talk?
