To an extent yes. But if the free software world doesn't provide an
adequate solution to your problem, then what? As an individual, I'm
generally prepared to go without until a suitable free software option
is available (and given time, I'll help contribute where possible).
My principles tend to be stronger than the desire to have some wizzy
feature that I can realistically live without. But for a company
doing effects for film, that's just not an option. Better, surely,
to go with an open OS with closed drivers than to go with a completely
closed system (which is the only other viable option).
