Hi all, GLLUG seems to be a bit slow sending my replies (my last email was sent two days before it arrived!), this will probably take a week.  

I had already replaced the fan, it started to make a (loud) noise so i assumed it might be failing.  It seemed to bring some life back to the system but it didnt solve the problem.  The heatsink was cleaned and i even keep the cover off the tower to improve airflow.  I guess the overheats must have damaged the chip, i just wanted to seek some advice on the matter first.  i am not a bad programmer but i don't know that much about the internals.

I will buy a chip, how much should a AMD K6 cost, the second hand computer shop on Tottenham Court Rd wanted to sell me one for £18 (a little steep i thought for a chip that old....)
