Here is a crazy notion get an Apple iBook or if you can stretch your
budget a Powerbook. Apple just upgraded the iBook processor to the G4
series making the base 12" model a very good buy at only £850.

I'm running Debian and OS X 10.2 on an G3 iBook, I'm not alone on this
crazyness, I used this guide http://www.flamingspork.com/linux/ibook/.

Another specialist PPC distro is available as well called Yellowdog
(http://www.yellowdoglinux.com) which is worth checking out, though I
haven't since I'm quite happy with Debian. (The Debian install is pretty
straight forward, even when I got an Airport card back in February it
auto-detected and worked.) An interesting piece on OSNews a while back
might be worth checking out as well --
http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=3596. It might be worth just
doing "Linux ibook" on google as well you'll see that many people are
running Linux on iBook.
