Have you seen 9iASR2 (the only one they certify, i.e. support, on 
Linux)? It's a right pig to install and not much better to run. R1 is a 
lot easier and runs on Linux fine, but isn't certified so no support. 
And of course, with Oracle software you *need* support.

A sound policy but unfortunately not one I can get away with.
