[Gllug] Console lockup problem

Hi
anyone have a solution for the following problem short of a reboot ?

Screen 1 is completely locked up with the contents of the display as of
last night

It will not apparently accept any input

Killing off the shell results in a new mingetty being spawned
Still no input echoed

Cating/echoing to /dev/tty1 from another screen results in the process hanging
(presumably can't open or write to the device),  but cating from /dev/tty1
displays whatever is being typed (but onot echoed on it).

Looks like the virtual screen can be read from but not written to !

I have tried an stty sane to it as well to no avail

Have now pretty well run out of ideas

Any suggestions ???
