There's often a number of cheap mp3 players at the fairs on Saturday.
Most of them word on mmc type multimedia cards. The problem then is to
get a card reader working. I got an old 'Dane-Elec' usb mmc card reader
working fine under RH7.2 and newer kernels probably offer better support.

Does anyone here have other suggestions for mmc card readers ?

Andrew

PS 'RipperX' is an excellent but often forgotten mp3 ripper ideal for
such a device.
