[Gllug] Slooooow boot

Hello all,

I have a machine which I've just installed debian on. Everything went fine
with the install, but upon rebooting, the machine wouldn't boot properly.
All that happened was the letters L, followed by I, followed by L (all the
way up to "LILO 2.22 Loading Linux" or whatever) appered as they should, but
incredibly slowly (around a minute between each character!).

Booting from the boot floppy I created worked absolutely fine.

Has anybody seen this sort of behaviour before? Is this a dodgy hard disk?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.
