doug at jarlsberg:~$ apt-cache rdepends gnome-games
gnome-games
Reverse Depends:
   gnome-desktop-environment
   libgdkcardimage0
   libgdkcardimage-dev
   gnome-games-data
   gnome-games-data
   education-logic-games
   education-desktop-gnome
   education-desktop-gnome

doug at jarlsberg:~$ apt-cache rdepends gnome-desktop-environment
gnome-desktop-environment
Reverse Depends:
   gnome-fifth-toe
   gnome-core
   gnome

yep, gnome depends on gnome-games. However, the gnome package is a
metapackage that contains very little itself - it's just there to pull
in all the other packages you need for a full gnome installation. The
same applies to gnome-desktop-environment.

So you could probably remove it, if you wanted. However I can't see any
reason in doing so, unless your disk space is *REALLY* limited.
gnome-games isn't exactly huge :)
