[Gllug] GDM in a muddle

I'm sorting XFree86 on a RH 7.2 system with a SiS MB and video. Not the best
kit but I know that X has run on this machine before.

The native X config utilities don't seem to be able to sort out the SiS 5596
video chip. I upgraded to the latest XFree86 and have got the X server
running but GDM is in a muddle - the bit that handles logons while X is
running. The GDM site and so on don't have any info on the error I'm getting
which is....

"Your session directory is missing or empty"

I've hunted around for what's missing but I'm stumped.

Any ideas guy and gals
