I think the problem he is experiencing is specifically that his MUA
doesn't understand the multipart/signed MIME type, which is specified in
RFC2015. You are sending signed emails with a detached MIME signature,
using the standards in this RFC.
Because Mailman is then appending a footer to the message, this is
attached as an inline text attachment after your multipart/signed part,
since obviously you didn't sign the footer since you didn't have it when
you signed the message.
Mailers that don't understand this often display the message as if it
were multipart/related, with a bunch of parts displayed as attachments
on an empty email, or something equally wrong.
The standard is pretty ancient (1996) so it has to be a pretty poor MUA
that still doesn't support this - all recent MUAs are fine with it afaik.
