For me, with 2.6.9, I get:-

Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx
Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: PIIX4: IDE controller at PCI slot 0000:00:07.1
Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: PIIX4: chipset revision 1
Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: PIIX4: not 100%% native mode: will probe irqs later
Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: ide0: BM-DMA at 0xffa0-0xffa7, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio
Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: ide1: BM-DMA at 0xffa8-0xffaf, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:DMA
Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: hda: ST52520A, ATA DISK drive
Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: hdd: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
Dec 23 12:46:13 mordor kernel: ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15

Comparing that to your output makes me wonder if you're missing a
chipset driver, so the generic ide support is loading, but not something
you need for your board. What does lspci show? On 2.6, you may get some
joy from looking at /sys/bus/ide as well.

Mike.
