The DCOP is for reusable-component intercommunication, mostly: the KPart
and its wrapper have to talk somehow. (I *like* the idea of being able
to boss around full terminal emulators from shell scripts and perl
scripts and the like. :) )

I used to do that (until, ooh, two days ago); but now I find myself
popping up new tabs a lot of the time; i.e., unless I *want* the new
terminal to be smaller than the old one and Z-order-overlapping with it,
I'll use a tab. :)

But this is definitely a YMMV.
