[Gllug] Yum problem

I have a bytemark machine, it runs redhat 9.

I thought that it would be a good idea to update it. I downloaded yum from

	http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/redhat/9/

installed that & apt. (I got a RPM database error, so I rebuilt that en route).

I run yum & get:

	[root at bytemark yum]# yum update
	Traceback (most recent call last):
	  File "/usr/bin/yum", line 22, in ?
	    import yummain
	ImportError: Bad magic number in /usr/share/yum/yummain.pyc
	[root at bytemark yum]#

The cksum for /usr/share/yum/yummain.pyc agrees with that on another machine of mine
(where yum does work).

I am not a python programmer, help please.
