Since we were on the subject of markup, some people may be interested in
YAML:
http://www.yaml.org/
It's very nicely designed IMO, although it has some of the problems of a
DWIM approach in that it's got a few sharp edges.
It's far more suited to a lot of the tasks XML is used for than XML.
Configuration files particularly work very nicely.
