I see no reason why a SS1 couldn't take a fast ethernet sbus card, though
whether it could use it effectively is another matter.
And SCSI is SCSI. You could stick a modern U320 disk on the 5MB/s SCSI bus
of a SS1.
That said, a SS1 would run Solaris 9 like a dog, though I believe Solaris
9 would actually still run on it. But running {Net|Open}BSD it could still
be a useful firewall or router.

Who'd want to run SunOS 5.x on anything other than a multi-processor box
anyway? Scalability is nothing on a single CPU.
