I don't think so. I had a 1+ once and it would only run 7. So I doubt 
the 1 would run 9. And it took a complete working day just to install 7:)

Yes, it would do that. But I'd tend towards using an old PC. The 1+ 
wasn't particularly reliable (I had to make one good one out of two and 
that expired soon afterwards). Parts or complete replacements for old 
PCs are easier to acquire. But a mate did take the remains of the 1+s 
off my hands for spares.

Oy! Let someone else discover the joys of using an architecture which 
isn't brain dead by design:) (I have a Mac too, and use RS/6000s at 
work, and the SPARC hard/firmware is definitely my favourite).
