Depending on how your Windows desktops are set up (I'm assuming some
elegant, centralised system here); is running bochs + Linux on each
desktop a possibility? Ok, so the per-machine CPU isn't going to be
great, but if you've got a few labs full of machines then it should fly.

As I was trying to figure out what's going on with this Tablix thing, I
tripped over Tablix on Morphix ( http://www.kiberpipa.org/~tomaz/tom/ )
- a bootable iso with automatic cluster config... "In theory" it should
be a doddle to use with bochs. The only trick is setting up the IP routing.

Does anyone know of a (free) Windows equivalent to tuntap? I know VMware
has all this stuff, and there are free NAT/router/firewall utilities for
Windows; but I've never found a "virtual NIC" for Windows.

I like this idea a lot. I'm not sure it's practical for you, now. I just
hope it's usable by someone, soon.
