It's ok, I found it with
grep scsi /var/log/messages | grep st
udev and devfs would both be nice. Even nicer would be if work stopped spending so much taxpayers' on MS servers and were more sympathetic to what they call "unsupported systems."
Our sudden interest in backups comes from realising that more than half of what our team publishes is still produced on a Redhat 6.1 box which has been officially disowned and which has started making funny noises.
At least it works. The new system (SQL Server 2000, Crystal Reports please shoot me now, VB) doesn't.
