No it doesn't. I've opened huge images in GIMP. The largest print sized
image I've come across was for full colour ads in the broadsheet papers,
which were about 400MB, and IIRC around 16,000 pixels in the largest axis.
I've opened 40,000 pixel wide image in GIMP without problems.
