I use:

.mailcap:

    text/html; w3m -dump -T text/html < %s; copiousoutput

.muttrc:

    auto_view text/html
    alternative_order text/plain text/html

That way you get the text preferentially if they've sent it, otherwise
it renders the html using w3m (which does nice stuff with tables).

Obviously I don't actually see much html mail, since mostly it gets
flagged as spam.
