[Gllug] Knoppix3.3

I've installed Knoppix3.3 on a hard disk using 'knoppix-installer'
following
responses to my earlier post.

There were no problems apparent, so I started to make changes to fit in
with my preferences - for example, getting rid of programs I don't like or
need and bringing in some I prefer.

On the two hard drives on this box, I have 22 partitions and only two will
I need access to and these I prefer to mount manually. The Kde desktop
was covered with icons and /etc/fstab looked like a draft of War and Peace,
so I re-wrote /etc/fstab and removed all icons relating to hard drives, not
realising that when re-booting 'etc/init.d/knoppix-autoconfig' scans for
hard disk partitions and writes a new /etc/fstab.

Now, I've developed to the point where I can understand roughly what
scripts are asking to be done, but how to make changes or re-write them
is way beyond me.

Would someone please advise how I can get this installation to use the
/etc/fstab I create - I don't mind the scanning of hard disk partitions, but
I don't want a new /etc/fstab to be written.

Anyone help please. John.
