Doug, this is quite true - NFS *is* famous for being difficult and 
temperamental and indeed unreliable.

But my experience is that if you set it up properly it works fine. It 
can be a bit of a black art it is true.

Do you have any real examples of a properly set up NFS system giving 
trouble?
