Our IT chaps have a couple of snapservers (now snapappliance) that they are
quite happy with although they don't quite tie into the domain properly.

In general terms anything that you can log into is good because then you have
a fighting chance of fixing it. Otherwise if the httpd goes down your
diagnostic tools are going to be quite limited.
