[Gllug] OT Laptop repair London

My year old Presario 2500 has simply stopped working altogether, no bios 
and the occasional hard drive lurch. Rather typically, and I say it 
through gritted teeth, the warranty expired about three weeks ago.

Anyway, not much of a hardware person, I thought to contact HP and 
locate an HP authorised London dealer. Imagine my surprise when they 
told me that no such entity exists in the UK and that I would have to 
send it via them to Germany for repairs. Pressed further for locally 
available options I was told, to my utter incredulity, to take it to the 
nearest PC World. I told them I would rather crack it open myself than 
send it to those hairless chimps and hung up. My own experiences in the 
branches of this reputable dealer have left me deeply suspicious of 
their capabilities, so that is not an option I would consider.

So, anyone know of a reasonably priced and reliable company to whom I 
can take my machine? Ideally around the West End, but can travel if 
needs be. Meantime I shall open it up and look for obvious signs of 
trouble, the warranty being of no further use to me.
