For the archive, in the unlikely circumstance anyone else ever comes
across this, there was a BIOS upgrade available.  I flashed it and it
added an option to the "Keyboard Present" option of "Ignore", which did
exactly what I want.

Having had a play, the serial access to the BIOS works perfectly too.
