Cant talk for there kit but I can vouch for their service.

www.scan.co.uk - used many times
www.novatech.co.uk  - used once and got good kit cheap and it arrived 1 day
early.

Would anyone care to recommend a shop for low-end, commodity 
workstations?

In Vancouver, there are a few high-volume shops that have been around 
for ages and are known for having the lowest prices.  I've found a few 
here, but I'd rather go with a shop that's recommended.
