[Gllug] re: hosts.conf/nsswitch.conf debate

Just read the most recent post.

I may be wrong, but it seems to be that nsswitch.conf defines the order
in which the 'databases' are to be searched for a name, and hosts.conf
assigns IP addresses to names.

Thus, if nsswitch hosts entry is set to 'files dns',
the resolver routines will first consult /etc/hosts and if nothing found
then consult the nameservers defined in /etc/resolv.conf.
