CF card format is based around PCMCIA IDE storage, this means you can plug it
into an IDE controller with a suitable connector. I reckon it will last longer
in the market place as all pro/semi-pro digital SLR cameras use CF, and
also the CF type II form factor has many more expansions like wireless
lan and bluetooth cards available to buy. Either way, by the time it
becomes obsolete I reckon that SD will also be obsolete so I don't think
you are saving much via trying to futureproof this way as the
price/capacity will drop too quickly.

I dispute this. Most of the kit I want to buy uses CF, nothing I want to
buy has only an SD slot they also have a CF slot (although the new nokia
communicators do have SD I guess, but I don't know if I want one yet as they
aren't released).

I presume you mean form factor, not in capcity, you can get 4GB CF cards
now, it seems the biggest SD card you can get is 1GB, this makes a big
difference to me.

I have a CF card reader here that is about the size of a CF card with a
usb plug on the end, much much smaller than a box of cigarettes, more
like the size of a match box.
