Au contraire !

I have, I feel sure, replied on more than one occasion concerning my
mail client. I may have possibly replied direct rather than to the list
- but I think at least one post has gone to the list on the subject.

Firstly, all my emails are read on a SCO Opensewer system which runs a
virtually 100% Cobol system for all users, including the front-end Menu
system and user programs. For ease of use the 'mail reading' program is also
in Cobol. Also the other reason for rolling up everything into a Cobol
front-end with mostly Cobol utilities is to keep everyone well away from shells
(both dangerous for the unitiated and difficult to use). Mail messages are
also composed and sent from a Cobol program. Dumb terminals are used
throughout by the way - some may consider them archaic but the serve our
purposes reliably and well (I shudder at the thought of having to service
the needs of piles of indivual windows PCs).

The mail programs do actually support threading on replies, but the specific
problem with Gllug emails is that they are accumulated on the system into a
periodic 'digest' and read with a 'showfile' utility as and when. This is
why you will quite often see posts from me that may be a bit 'belated' on the
given subject. I have to post a 'reply' by extracting with an editor the
portion of the digest and then sending it off as a standalone email. Hence
the lack of threading. I do try and include a subject line which indicates
hopefully what the post relates to, for those who might like to ignore posts
on subjects of no interest.

Apologies for the annoyance. When I find time I will explore a better method
of dealing with Gllug emails, so hopefully replies can be reasonably
'threaded'.

Tim
