This has happened to me, with GCC warning improvements turning out to be
useful at work. They were very happy that I'd managed to add features
that they needed before they needed them and in my own time.
(Plus, if you wrote some code yourself outside of paid employment and
nobody else contributed, you control the license and so can dual-
license it under some license that gives your company control over the
copy you use there...)
