Probably a modem.  Beware - although the connector is there the laptop
may not actually have the modem inside.

Exactly the same pin configuration as the other PS/2 socket?  If so then
probably one is keyboard and one is mouse.  Look for little icons to
tell you which is which.

Generally speaking you just disconnect the mains power.  If that doesn't
work then the chances are the battery is FUBARed.

Unless you use unreasonable force you can't really cock it up.  If a
plug fits a socket then the chances are it's the right one, and if it
isn't actually the right one it won't break anything.

One caveat - don't connect or disconnect things (except power and USB)
with the computer switched on).
