On the subject of scanners,  has anyone yet produced a scanner which connect via
either 100mbps or 1Gbps ethernet   - this would seem a very cheap way of
interfacing the scanner to the computer ?  Presumably one would only then need
a user-space program to drive it, ie  scanner commands sent via TCP/IP and the
scan image returned.
