A box with both a CD/DVD reader and a CD/DVD writer, DVB tuner card,
separate dedicated decoder card which may be faulty, a load of semi-random
sound software loaded by default, and a choice between 2.4 and 2.6 kernels
with different module names for an ISA sound card meant that not even
Knoppix could get things working correctly under 2.4, or at all under 2.6,
and I am still doing battle with Sarge. Some default CD players tried for
testing work for some of the time, but their configurations then seem to
contradict each other, and some of the default software must be inhibited
to even get that far due to conflicts between different sound systems.
