There is a fairly high value resistor left across the line which can be
tested without any phone connected, or with all handsets "on the hook". It
is there for testing the line DC leakage, and should never be disconnected.
Each phone should match the normal line impedance over the normal audio
frequency range, so that the line is correctly terminated when any one phone
is in use. The ADSL modem should provide the correct line termination at the
ADSL carrier frequency range.
