There is a version of the commercial "Sage" package available for Unix
compatibles, but I have been told that it is not file compatible with the
usual M$ version, and I do not know the price. It may be an up-market
version, because I would expect it to be the choice of larger corporates.
There have been visits to the GLLUG stand at Olympia for a few years by a
Japanese(?) gentleman who spoke about a project to design a universal system
to which you could input a file containing the local tax laws and it should
"just work", but when I mentioned this to an accountant he just laughed and
said that we do not have tax laws, only (flexible) guidelines.
