The BCS is trying to set itself up in precisely this role.  They don't
have anything like the recognition in IT that the IMechE/IChemE/IEEE
type bodies have in engineering yet, but as the IT sector gets more
mature I can see a time when every IT professional will need to be a
member of a chartered body in the same way that engineers do now.
