The non-splitup option isn't too bad - it pulls out the common config 
use cases and plonks them in another file, so upgrades are easier.

The split-into-lots-of-little-files is useful only when you are heavily 
customising a server.  I've used it once in anger, for a box that had 
LDAP authentication, vacation messaging and aliasing and delivered 
through LMTP to cyrus, and it was a godsend.  For normal use it's 
overkill though.
