I am a big fan of working from home, but that's because I'm generally lazy and
unsociable in the mornings ;) what you are suggesting is that we should be
locking ourselves in and dont go outside (taking it to the extreme), order
our food via tesco delievery service etc. I dont like the idea. I mean, why
live in this amazing city if you cannot travel around and actually experience
it.
On another note I'm not a big fan of the "get on with it" motto given out now.
From own experience, any traumatic experience needs a process of "digestion"
- basically talking about it, thinking about it, and also discuss, what can
be done to lower the chances of it happening again etc. (I also think id
cards are a crap id -- checkout www.privacyinternational.org, not my web site
but affiliated)

At the moment, I dont have any ideas apart from asking the intelligence
services how something like this could go unnoticed by them given the
resources they have.
